ITEC welcomes Professor Manar Jammal

Headshot of Manar JammalThe School of Information Technology is pleased to welcome Professor Manar Jammal to the department. Professor Jammal specializes in the study of distributed systems, cloud computing, machine learning, and network automation.

“We are very fortunate to have Professor Jammal,” said Sotirios Liaskos, director of the School of Information Technology. “She brings a strong expertise in the areas of cloud computing and software-defined networking and a remarkable ability to develop and sustain industrial collaborations, in addition to her many other scholarly and community achievements. I look forward to working with Professor Jammal over the next academic year.”

Professor Jammal received her Ph.D. in High Availability of Cloud Applications from Western University. She was a researcher with a leading telecommunication industrial partner, Ericsson Research Montreal, resolving strategic cloud issues related to technology process improvement. After her Ph.D. studies, Jammal worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at the OC2 group in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Western University where she worked on data analytics techniques and Machine Learning models in the areas of network function virtualization and cloud computing.  She is the Past-Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), and she is now the Regional Coordinator of IEEE Canada WIE and the Chair of IEEE Canada WIE Committee.

Professor Jammal will become immediately part of the program’s key effort to modernize its important introductory programming course “ITEC1620 – Object Based Programming” which she will start teaching this Winter, while preparing her specialized senior undergraduate and graduate courses on network management and cloud computing.
